Brays Oaks Management District Business & Economic Development Committee met Aug. 7.

The Brays Oaks Management District Business and Economic Development Committee held a meeting via Zoom video conference on August 07, 2024, at 10:00 am.

District Board and Committee members present: Sheri Cortez, Ralph Rieger, Sylvia Rivas, Cindy Chapman, Jodi Hamilton

Staff members present: Josh Hawes, Cosme Garcia, Natali Hurtado, Andrea Duhon, Annie Trinh Public present: Sylvester L. (Skip) Reeder III, Shavonnah Roberts Schreiber – SNR Creative, Cynthia Demery, Brenda Jackson, Angelee Rhyne

Committee Chair Sheri Cortez called the meeting to order at 10:01 AM, and the committee meeting adjourned at 11:00 AM.

a. No public comments were received.

3. Minutes of 6/05/24 B&ED Committee Meeting

a. Committee meeting minutes submitted for reference.

4. District Updates & Recommendations

a. Development Properties

i. Director of Services Garcia shared photos of Brays Oaks Crossing and the food truck park.

ii. Director Cortez has reached out to the Brays Oaks Crossing developer regarding maintenance of the area.

iii. Ms. Rhyne inquired if the committee knew why the development across from the food truck has stalled. Director Cortez advised she would investigate.

iv. Ms. Rhyne expressed her concern regarding another gas station being built in the community.

v. Ms. Rhyne expressed concern regarding a church on Riceville School Rd. that is paving the property with concrete.

vi. Executive Director Hawes advised that changes to the food truck ordinance will be changing.

vii. Director Cortez advised the committee of a request for replatting that is owned by a church on Bob White Dr.

1. Director Cortez will share the contact information with staff and has requested that this item be placed on the agenda.

b. Ruffino Redevelopment

i. Mr. Reeder advised the property has been bought by CoH.

ii. Director Cortez advised that Brays Oaks needs to reestablish contact with CoH on the Ruffino project and what the next steps are.

c. Branding – SNR Creative

i. Ms. Schreiber gave an update and asked for more feedback regarding discussion from the last board meeting.

1. Permits

a. Executive Director Hawes reviewed the permits. A detailed report is included in the committee packet.

2. Platting

a. Executive Director Hawes advised that the district has no new platting activity for the month of July.

e. Business PIP

i. Director Cortez advised this item can be pulled off future agendas.

f. Business Incentives Program

i. Director of Services Garcia advised that the district recognized ShAC and will recognize Harova Market and Sno-Dreamz will be the last for the year.

g. METRO W. Bellfort Park & Ride

i. Executive Director Hawes advised that he is working to schedule a meeting between BOMD and METRO.

h. Discuss Economic Development Initiatives

i. Executive Director Hawes advised that Lance Dean will present a draft of the business improvement grant process. Additionally, he would like to discuss more social media for the district.

ii. Director Cortez advised that she would like to see the district engage with more developers. Executive Director Hawes advised that Annie Trinh is on staff and helps to coordinate business mixers at SWMD, he will work with her to put a plan together.

iii. Executive Director Hawes advised that staff is meeting with a possible vendor that gathers business intelligence that may be useful to area developers.
