HISD recognizes Stephanie Lugo as Star Educator for leadership in New Education System

Stephanie Lugo, principal of McGowen Elementary School, has been recognized as HISD’s Star Educator for her significant contributions to the New Education System (NES). Lugo was among the first principals to integrate a campus into NES, leading to notable progress for both students and staff.

Lugo's career with HISD began at Lewis Elementary, where she quickly advanced to teacher specialist. Her efforts were pivotal in elevating the school out of Improvement Required status. She continued her trajectory by serving as a teacher specialist and GT coordinator at West University Elementary before becoming assistant principal at Twain Elementary.

As principal of McGowen, Lugo's leadership style, focused on positivity and supported by a dedicated staff, has driven improvements in student outcomes during the school's first year under NES.
