HISD recognizes Erica Brame-Manuel as Star Educator

Erica Brame-Manuel is the new principal of Cullen Middle School, adding to her extensive list of leadership roles. Her dedication to excellence and commitment to her students and staff have earned her recognition as this week’s HISD Star Educator.

During her tenure as principal of Thompson Elementary School, Brame-Manuel opted the school into the New Education System. She attributes the positive response from students, staff, and the community for the significant improvement in student performance, with most students now performing at or above grade level.

Brame-Manuel's career in education began at HISD’s Bastian Elementary School. As a campus reading specialist, she played a key role in enhancing student outcomes at Foerster Elementary and drove significant gains in reading and writing at Lawson Middle School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Wiley College and a master’s degree from Jones International University.

Focused on goals and consistency, Brame-Manuel takes pride in creating an environment that excites both staff and students daily.

In addition to her professional achievements, Brame-Manuel shared some personal favorites:

- Favorite subject in school: Reading.

- Favorite book: The Carpenter by John Gordon.

- Favorite thing about Houston: "I love the diversity, cost of living, and the good food."

- Goal for students and staff this upcoming school year: "My goal is for the improvement of instructional capacity and school culture through the implementation of effective practices that yield high results."
