Educational non-profit organization Good Reason Houston shared a positive reaction to the preliminary release of the Houston Independent School District (HISD) accountability data. On August 7, HISD, the largest public school district in Texas, announced a significant improvement in its A-F Accountability ratings.

According to a press release issued by Good Reason Houston, the district raised its number of A and B rated schools from 93 to 170 and lowered the number of D or F rated campuses from 121 to 41.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) seized control of HISD last year following a four-year legal battle and a 2015 Texas law that requires the state to take over a school district if it fails state standards for five consecutive years.

Good Reason Houston was founded to boost the number of students learning in great public schools.

Its chief executive officer (CEO), Cary Wright, said in the release that HISD's positive results are a sign that the district is on the right path, calling the progress "truly commendable, and a testament to the incredible work of the district’s students, teachers, and campus leaders."

Wright added that while HISD's transformation still has a ways to go, its achievements are worth celebrating.

A release of all data by the state is slated for August 15.
