A Houston man, Deon Williams, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for molesting an 11-year-old girl, resulting in her pregnancy. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg emphasized the need for parents to be vigilant about who they bring around their children, stating, “The victim and her family want to raise awareness that this abuse can happen to anyone and that parents need to stay ever vigilant about who they bring around their kids.”
Williams, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison without the possibility of appeal. The plea agreement spared the victim from having to testify in court about the abuse she endured.
Assistant District Attorney Abraham Chopin, who prosecuted the case, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, saying, “This was truly a just result, not only for the victim and their family but for Harris County.” Chopin emphasized the importance of ensuring that survivors of sexual abuse have a voice and are not re-traumatized during the legal process.
The incident came to light when the young girl began showing signs of pregnancy, leading a family member to alert authorities. The Houston Police investigated and arrested Williams, who had stayed at the family's home multiple times and threatened the victim to keep silent about the abuse.
The young girl gave birth to the child, who was subsequently adopted. Williams will have to serve at least half of his 40-year sentence before being eligible for parole.
