Governor Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation declaring a state of disaster in various counties in Texas due to the elevated and critical fire weather conditions and wildfires that have been affecting the region. The Governor's declaration comes in response to the imminent threat of widespread damage, injury, or loss of life and property in several counties.

In the proclamation, Governor Abbott stated, "I do hereby declare a state of disaster in Archer, Armstrong, Bailey, Baylor, Briscoe, Carson, Castro, and several other counties based on the existence of such threat." He further authorized the use of all available state resources and those of political subdivisions necessary to address the disaster.

The Governor also suspended certain regulatory statutes and rules to ensure that necessary actions can be taken promptly to cope with the disaster. He emphasized, "Any regulatory statute or order that would impede necessary action in coping with this disaster shall be suspended upon written approval of the Office of the Governor."

The proclamation highlighted the importance of swift emergency response, stating, "To protect life and property threatened by this declared disaster, I hereby authorize the suspension of certain state statutes and rules related to contracting or procurement for the duration of this disaster."

The Governor's proclamation, signed on February 27, 2024, has been officially attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson. Copies of the proclamation will be filed with the relevant authorities as required by statutory regulations.

Governor Abbott's decisive action aims to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the affected counties as they face the challenges posed by the ongoing wildfires and critical fire weather conditions.
