A team of assessors from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) is set to evaluate the University of Houston Police Department (UHPD) for re-accreditation, according to UHPD Chief Ceaser Moore, Jr. The assessment will cover various aspects of the department's operations and services from March 3-5.

In a statement, Chief Moore emphasized the importance of the assessment, stating, "Our team of UHPD officers and staff are dedicated to promoting and preserving a safe campus environment and providing great customer service to the university community." He also expressed the department's eagerness to receive feedback from the public during this process.

The accreditation review, conducted every four years, involves assessing the department's compliance with over 200 standards that are based on national best practices in public safety. Achieving IACLEA accreditation serves as recognition of a campus public safety department's professional excellence.

University members, department employees, and the public are encouraged to provide comments on UHPD's performance by calling (346) 248-7799 on Monday, March 4, between 1-3 p.m. These comments should address the department's ability to meet IACLEA's standards. Written comments can also be submitted via email to jmurphy@iaclea.org.

The IACLEA assessment team, led by experienced professionals from outside the area, includes Tamara McCollough and Cleveland "Smitty" Smith. Once the assessment is completed, the team will report their findings to IACLEA for a decision on the department's re-accreditation status, as explained by compliance manager Lori Percle.
