The League City Police Department (LCPD) was involved in a shooting incident that took place in the parking lot of Walmart, located at 1701 W FM 646. The incident occurred during the final weekend of the Christmas shopping season. Authorities have confirmed that the alleged gunman was the sole casualty in this event.
A representative from the City of League City stated, "LCPD received information that the Toyota was stolen earlier in the day out of Houston in an Aggravated Robbery with a gun." They added, "LCPD also received a description of the suspect involved with the Aggravated Robbery from earlier in the day."
According to official reports, about half an hour after receiving this information, LCPD officers located the unattended vehicle in question within the Walmart parking lot. The police were on high alert for any signs of the suspect returning to his stolen Toyota. Around 4 p.m., he did return to his vehicle and as officers approached him, he brandished a firearm and pointed it at them. The report further mentioned that "Officers reported that the suspect was struck by gunfire, and the officers were uninjured," as per authorities.
Despite attempts by officers to revive him, it was reported that the suspect died immediately at the scene. In order to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this incident, assistance was sought from Galveston County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO). During this investigation period, those League City officers who had confronted the suspect will be on paid administrative leave.
As per a report from Houston FOX station KRIV News, Houston police confirmed that indeed, the vehicle involved in this incident had been stolen at gunpoint. However, for now, they have withheld releasing any information regarding the identity of this suspect.
