Houston Firefighters Relief and Retirement Fund Budget and Audit Committee met Oct. 17.

A meeting of the Budget and Audit Committee of the Houston Firefighters’ Relief and Retirement Fund convened at the Fund offices at 4225 Interwood North Parkway on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 9:35 a.m.
Committee members present were Stephen R. Whitehead (Chair), Brett R. Besselman, Lisa R. Slagle, Arif Rasheed (City Treasurer Designee), Gerard L. Daniels, and Pete Ng (alternate committee member). Also present were Trustees David O. Lantrip, Earnest Wotring, and Albertino Mays and staff members Timothy Schauer (Executive Director), Claudia McInnis (Director of Finance and Administration), Dalia De La Cruz (Director of Member Services), and Adam Smith (General Counsel).
The Committee Chair called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. and invited comments from the public. No comments were received.
Eric Ernest presented the “Audited Financial Statements and Supplemental Information” for fiscal year ended June 30, 2023, noting that there were no irregularities identified.
Ari Rasheed entered the meeting room at 9:45 a.m.
Eric Ernest and Arshad Haque departed the meeting room at 9:47 a.m.
There was a motion by Brett R. Besselman, seconded by Gerard L. Daniels, to recommend to the full Board that it accept the audited financial statements and its supplemental information for fiscal year ended June 30, 2023, as presented. The motion carried.
The Director of Finance and Administration reviewed the fourth quarter Fiscal year 2023 Fund expenses in comparison to the budget. She stated that the overall expenses came in under budget.
Earnest W. Wotring entered the meeting room at 9:50 a.m.
The Director of Finance and Administration explained the need to revise the Fiscal Year 2024 Capital budget.
There was a motion by Lisa R. Slagle, seconded by Brett R. Besselman, to recommend to the full Board that it accept the Fiscal Year 2024 Capital budget revision, as presented. The motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 9:54 a.m. on a motion by Gerard L. Daniels, seconded by Lisa R. Slagle. The motion carried.
