Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Aaron Kinsey, a resident of Midland, as the new chair of the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE). The Office of the Texas Governor has confirmed that Kinsey will lead the SBOE until December 17, 2025, succeeding Dr. Keven Ellis.
The official statement disclosed that Kinsey is currently representing SBOE District 15 and holds the position of Chief Executive Officer at American Patrols, Inc., an aviation oilfield services company. During his almost ten-year tenure in the Air Force, Kinsey flew 120 combat missions and served as an instructor, according to information from the governor’s office.
According to his biography on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) website, Kinsey is a first-generation college graduate in his family. He earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree from Texas A&M University (TAMU). Additionally, he holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. As part of his work with TEA, he serves on the SBOE’s School Finance/Permanent School Fund (SF/PSF) Committee and chairs the Committee on Strategic Planning and Policy for the Texas PSF Corporation.
His biography also states that he is married with three children and that his family resides in West Texas.
