The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has embarked on a 12-day campaign to share holiday safety tips with Texans via its social media platforms. The state law enforcement agency has stated that these tips primarily concern safe driving practices, with the advice for December 7 being: "Don’t drink and drive."

In its post, DPS advises motorists who plan to celebrate the holidays with alcohol to ensure they have a sober ride home. This could be through a designated driver, a taxi, or a rideshare service. "Your fellow Texans are depending on you," said DPS.

It's been two weeks since DPS started monitoring Texas roadways for drivers who may have overindulged in alcohol. According to DPS Trooper Richard Standifer, who spoke to Houston National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate KUHF News, anyone making road trips during the holidays should remember to buckle up, adhere to the speed limit, avoid using electronic devices while operating the vehicle, and stay inside their vehicle in case of a breakdown.

Houston CW affiliate KIAH News reported that DPS is also showcasing a holiday exhibit aimed at highlighting the dangers of drunk driving at various businesses. The station further reported that the agency is expected to increase its presence on the roads starting from the week before Christmas Day.
