Gov. Greg Abbott has sent firefighting personnel and emergency response resources to Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi to assist with dealing with dangerous wildfire conditions, the Office of the Texas Governor said.
"The governor added the state is prepared to provide additional support to impacted communities," according to the release from the governor's office.
The same release further elaborates on Abbott's order for deployment of specific resources: 13 wildland firefighters, two tractor plows, a bulldozer, and a Type 6 wildland fire engine.
Lastly, it is important to remember the last significant wildfire assistance provided by Texas. As reported by Austin Journal regarding an Aug. 8 blaze that ravaged Maui's seaside town of Lahaina in Hawaii. "Abbott invited first responders from the 50th state to take advantage of free peer counseling services provided by the Lone Star State," says the Journal. The publication further cites Reuters in its account of this catastrophic event as it claimed at least 100 lives and was labeled as "the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over 100 years".
