Gov. Greg Abbott has extended an invitation to Texas veterans, active servicemembers, and their spouses to participate in the 2023 Hiring Red, White, & You! statewide hiring fair. The event kicked off on Nov. 1 and will continue until Nov. 17.

“One of the many reasons our state is the economic engine of America is we continue to encourage employers to tap into the talent of our brave veterans who selflessly answered the call to serve our nation,” said Abbott in a press release issued by the Office of the Texas Governor on Oct. 31. He further emphasized that due to their leadership skills, high-quality professionalism, and mission-driven mindsets, Texas veterans bring a competitive advantage to any Texas business.

The release disclosed that the Hiring Red, White, & You! hiring fair is co-hosted by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) along with the governor's office and several other local and state entities. In this context, TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel highlighted in his statement that Texas hosts the largest population of military veterans with 15 million residing in the Lone Star State.

Adding a financial incentive for businesses hiring veterans, it was stated by Abbott's office that such businesses could qualify for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit which provides up to $9.600 of federal business income or payroll tax benefits when they hire from certain qualified groups of veterans.

The final information shared in the release was that attending Hiring Red, White, & You! is free.
