The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) has named U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) as its Legislator of the Year. The award recognizes Cruz's strong support for policies that benefit the upstream oil and gas industry.
In a press release issued by his office on October 2nd, Cruz expressed his concerns about the Biden administration's approach to the oil and gas industry. He stated, “The Biden administration’s hostility toward the oil and gas industry raises costs for American families and destroys U.S. jobs. Right here in America, we produce the world’s cleanest energy and have the resources and ability to do so without relying on Russia, Iran, or Venezuela."
Cruz expressed his gratitude for receiving the award and pledged to continue defending the merits of drilling on American soil and in American waters. He emphasized the importance of maintaining domestic energy production and keeping gas prices in check.
Cruz's office highlighted his efforts to support the industry, including working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Office of Management and Budget to approve new regulations allowing for new National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. These permits will be effective for a five-year window starting from May 11, 2023. Cruz's office stated that these permits are essential for maintaining domestic energy production and preventing further increases in gas prices.
Another achievement mentioned in the press release is Cruz's successful amendment to the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) National Defense Authorization Act. The amendment prohibits the sale of Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) crude oil to China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
Furthermore, Cruz worked with U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) to oppose the Biden administration's ban on gas stoves.
The IADC, founded in 1940, serves as an advocate for the drilling industry. The Houston-headquartered trade association aims to support the industry and its members.
