Houston rapper to host album release celebration week

Plugged In Ent & Wreckshop Records will present “OG Bidness” week from Sept. 19 to 23 to celebrate the release of a new album by legendary Houston rap artist D-Gotti. D-Gotti’s new album, “OG Bidness,” will be released on Sept. 22.

This week of celebration will include a private listening party on Sept. 19, a Rap101 Economics Podcast pop-up on Sept. 20, an album release party and performance on Sept. 21, an OG Bidness happy hour on Sept. 22 and a community event on Sept. 23 hosted in D-Gotti’s old neighborhood where he will be providing free haircuts and hairstyles to kids, with music, bounce houses and free food and drinks for the community.

D-Gotti, also known as Monroe, is an independent rap artist who has been a part of the Houston rap scene for decades, working with artists such as Erykah Badu, Bun B, Project Pat, Z-RO, DJ Screw and Big Moe. He was signed to Wreckshop Records, then to a major label, Priority Records/Capitol Records, in the early 2000s.

D-Gotti’s album “OG Bidness” is his take on the evolution of hip-hop, and will be available on all streaming platforms on Sept. 22.

Some of his popular albums include “Street Sermon,” released in 2000 on Wreckshop Records, and “Corner Celebrity,” released in 2004 on Elite Records, according to Discogs

Wreckshop Records is an independent Houston record label started in 1997 by Derrick "D-Reck" Dixon that specializes in southern hip-hop. Along with D-Gotti, they have released albums by artists such as Fat Pat, Big Moe, E.S.G., Pymp Tyte and Big Pokey.

As a part of the Wreckshop crew, D-Gotti also appeared in the 2000 movie “The Dirty 3rd.”
