Ten Gulf Coast schools have been awarded grants from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to bolster programs that prepare students for high-demand careers. Governor Greg Abbott expressed his gratitude to the TWC for its continued partnerships with educational institutions. The grants, known as Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants, were announced by the Office of the Texas Governor.

The Gulf Coast region is one of the fastest-growing regions in the state, according to the governor's office. The ten educational institutions receiving grants are Alvin Community College (ACC), Brazosport College (BC), Alief Independent School District (AISD), Dickinson Independent School District (DISD), East Chambers Independent School District (ECISD), Galveston Independent School District (GISD), Hempstead Independent School District (HISD), Katy Independent School District (KISD), Palacios Independent School District (PISD), and Santa Fe Independent School District (SFISD).

Each institution will utilize its grant for specific training programs. For example, ACC will use its $346,046 grant to train students as information security analysts, while BC will use its $325,547 grant to train students as chemical plant and system operators. Other grants will be used to train students as automotive service technicians, radiologic technicians, welders, mechanics, and mechanical engineers, among other high-demand careers.

The grants were presented by TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Aaron Demerson at a ceremony held at ACC. These grants will help empower young Texans and prepare them for success in the state's thriving economy, according to Governor Abbott.
