On Aug. 18, Gov. Greg Abbott lauded July employment data released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) that shows the state in the top position in relation to job additions in the nation over the last year.
“Texas again outpaces the nation in annual jobs growth thanks to strong business investments and the best workforce in America,” Abbott said in a press release issued by the Office of the Texas Governor. “As a result, more Texans are working than ever before.”
The governor asserted in the release the figures are an example of how Texas is a state friendly toward businesses and job seekers.
“Business confidence in the productivity of our skilled and growing workforce and in the certainty of our state’s pro-growth economic policies is unrivaled,” Abbott said. “That is why we welcome more new employers and jobs to Texas every day.
“Texas works when Texans work—that is the Texas of tomorrow we are building today,” he said.
According to the governor’s office, Texas achieved new record highs last month. The state added 441,700 jobs from July 2022 to July 2023 and has 14,464,700 Texans – employed or self-employed – working in addition to boasting 13,969,100 total jobs. Its annual job growth rate of 3.3% bests that of the country’s 2.2%, per the release.
Earlier this month, Abbott touted small businesses as part of Texas' economic growth at the Governor’s Small Business Summit in McAllen, Austin Journal reported citing an Aug. 10 press release.
“Small businesses are a key part of the Texas economic juggernaut,” he said, according to the release. “Thanks to every one of you here today who serve as the engine of the booming Texas economy, Texas continues to rank as the Best State for Business and is the nation’s top state for small business job growth.
“Because of our dedication to cutting red tape across the state and investing in the workforce of tomorrow, there is no better place to start and grow a small business than Texas,” the governor said.
