Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson led his law enforcement agency and the community it serves in mourning an individual he called a “good friend and an honorable police officer.”
West Precinct Captain Kenneth “Kenny”’ Dunlap died “unexpectedly from a medical incident” the afternoon of June 24, according to a press release issued by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
“I am still processing this tragedy,” Henderson said in the release. “Today is a day when the word ‘family’ takes on a deep meaning for us all, take a moment to tell those close to you how much you love them. Please keep Kenny’s wife, Beth, and the Dunlap family in your prayers.”
According to the MCSO, Dunlap was a Texas peace officer for 40 years and had served in his last position since 2020. A June 28 article in The Courier of Montgomery County reported that Dunlap perished at his residence at the age of 62. The publication reported that the late veteran lawman’s family was slated to receive visitors at Mims Baptist Church in Conroe on Thursday evening, with the funeral service and subsequent interment to be held on Friday.
According to The Courier of Montgomery County, Dunlap was born in the city of Trinity, but spent most of his youth in Conroe. A graduate of Conroe High School, he matriculated at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in Huntsville, where he decided to pursue a career in law enforcement, the article said. Dunlap attended the Harris County Basic Peace Officer’s Course and joined the MCSO afterward, the publication reported.
Dunlap’s obituary on the Dignity Memorial website said the MCSO was the only agency he ever worked for. Aside from his spouse, Dunlap is also survived by his three adult children he shared with her: Matt, Sarah, and Cameron, the obituary said.
