A Houston suburb earned designation as a Film Friendly Texas community from the Texas Film Commission (TFC) on Tuesday.

The City of Rosenberg was bestowed the designation after successfully undergoing a multi-step training and certification process, according to a press release issued by the Office of the Texas Governor.

“I congratulate the City of Rosenberg on earning the Film Friendly Texas designation and joining 170 other Texas communities who have received this recognition,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in the release. “Texas is brimming with promise, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside all of our communities to ensure they have the knowledge and tools needed to succeed."

“Through the Film Friendly Texas training and certification process, communities large and small are prepared to help match local businesses with production-related needs, creating jobs for Texas-based crew members and local residents, as well as spurring on-site spending at local small businesses,” Abbott, a Republican, continued. “I thank the Texas Film Commission for helping communities like Rosenberg market their unique appeal and support local job creation through media production.”

Home to close to 40,000 people, Rosenberg is in Fort Bend County, just 36 miles southwest of Houston.

Rosenberg City Manager John Maresh said in the governor’s release that he looks forward to the “continued positive impact” the TFC designation will have on his community.

“Since the short time we have been working toward certification, we have been fortunate to assist in two film endeavors,” Maresh said. “I foresee this continuing and spurring positive economic growth for our community.”

State Sen. Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham), whose district includes Rosenberg, hailed the accolade.

“This Film Friendly Texas designation is another great example of how the City of Rosenberg is seeking to grow and diversify their economy and attract new industry to the area,” Kolkhorst said in the release. “Congratulations to everyone involved with this important milestone.”

Per the release, the TFC has worked to promote the Lone Star State as an ideal destination for the entertainment industry for more than 50 years, generating an economic impact of $1.95 billion in local spending from 2007 to last year.
