The head of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) announced that he’ll seek another term, according to a press release

Sheriff Rand Henderson looks to stay in the post he was first elected to in 2016.

“I am officially launching my reelection campaign for Montgomery County Sheriff,” he said on his campaign website. “These years spent at the helm of our department have been some of the best in my career. I look forward to sharing our accomplishments out on the campaign trail, earning reelection and continuing to serve the great communities of Montgomery County."

Henderson, a Republican, said in the release that “public safety is the first responsibility.”

“The men and women of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are here to protect and serve,” the veteran lawman said. “I’m proud of the work they do and am honored to lead this team to safeguard our community."

According to the release, Henderson has garnered most of the Republican grassroots leadership and party officials and has a war chest of more than $600,000 to start his reelection bid.

Henderson called the support he received from the Montgomery County Commissioners Court, Montgomery County District Attorney (DA) Brett Ligon and the law enforcement community “gratifying.”

“It’s a team effort and I appreciate their trust in me,” he said, per the release. “The tremendous support from the community is humbling.”

“That’s why I entered law enforcement,” he said. “It is their backing that calls me to seek reelection and gives me confidence we will be successful in this reelection campaign."

According to Henderson’s website, before joining the MCSO in 1994, he supported himself through college by working as a full-time corrections officer at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville.

He holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, Law Enforcement Instructor License, Crime Prevention Inspector License and a Texas Jail License, having taught criminal justice at Lone Star College (LSC) and his alma mater, Sam Houston State University (SHSU), from where he graduated with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Henderson is a married father of two.
