The Brays Oaks Management District Public Safety Committee held a meeting via Zoom video conference on February 01, 2023, at 11:30 am.
District Board and Committee members present: Ralph Rieger, Ronald Plotkin, Cindy Chapman, Steve Moore, Sheri Cortez, Sylvia Rivas
Staff members present: Xavier Herrera, Cosme Garcia, Alan Bernstein
Public safety present: Commander Christopher Hassig – HPD, Lt. Kirby Fehr – HPD, Office Kelvis Woods – HPD, Sgt. Cedric Nickerson – HPD, Mike Laster – HCAO, Cawlyn Robinson – HCAO Public present: Stephen Polnaszek – Neighborhoods to Trails, Brenda Jackson, Mike Bercu, Tina DeFiore – HAA, Brian Pendleton – Office of Lesley Briones Pct. 4, Debbie Gordon – WCG
Executive Director Xavier Herrera called the meeting to order at 11:33 AM, and the committee meeting adjourned at 12:05 PM.

a. Mr. Bercu made public comment regarding crime stats in the area.
3. Minutes of 1/11/23 Public Safety Committee Meeting
a. Committee meeting minutes provided for reference.
4. Report from HPD (S. Gessner & Southwest) for the month of January.
a. Southwest
i. Commander Hassig reported District 15 crime stats. A detailed report is available in the committee packet.
b. S. Gessner
i. Lt. Fehr reported District 17 crime stats. A detailed report is available in the committee packet.
c. Bike & DRT
i. Officer Woods gave a report on DRT activities. A detailed report is available in the committee packet.
5. Receive report on HPD Overtime Program
a. Lt. Fehr provided a report on the crime initiative overtime program. A detailed report is available in the committee packet.
6. Receive report from Harris County Attorney’s Office
a. Mr. Laster reported that HCAO is working on two chapter 125 cases, both locations are convenience stores. An advisory letter will be sent to the store at 6275 W. Airport that outlines HCAO findings and the responsibilities of the property owner. HCAO was not able to identify the 2nd location because a possible advisory letter and lawsuit is forthcoming. HCAO will be conducting a Chapter 125 training course. Director Cortez requested HCDAO be invited to the training.
7. Update from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office
i. Ms. Cortez reviewed the HCDA PSA for the month regarding sex trafficking and advised that the next campaign will likely involve cybercrime. Additionally, HCDAO continues to promote awareness regarding unsecured guns in vehicles. Further, illegal dumping should be reported to HPD DRT.
8. Discussion & Recommendations
a. December Graffiti & Light Outage Report
i. Executive Director Herrera reported that 20 sites were abated.
ii. Committee will receive a light outage report next month.
9. Receive RCR Report
a. Ms. DeFiore provided a report on RCR for the month of January.
