Equitable Holdings Inc. held its Houston branch 2023 Impact Day and Financial Empowerment season on Feb. 23 at Young Women’s College Prep Academy (YWCPA).

The event was held in partnership with YWCPA to inform young women scholars on how to successfully transition from high school to college and be financially prepared.

Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy is located in Houston’s midtown neighborhood. It is Houston Independent School District’s only all-girls college preparatory school.

Equitable, is a leading financial services organization and one of America's leading financial services providers since 1859. With the mission to help clients secure their financial well-being, Equitable provides advice, protection, and retirement strategies to small businesses, families, and individuals. The company has more than 8,000 employees and advisors and serves 2.8 million clients across the country.

The three-day event was led by Equitable colleagues. The conversations focused on the racial wealth gap through community impact.

Equitable’s Vice President Sarah Ogle, Chief Diversity Officer Darryl Gibbs, and Financial Professional Brian Cass opened the event on Feb. 23. The duo introduced new implementations for the branch.

When asked what his favorite part of the event was, a financial professional at Equitable reported that the women's testimonials made him optimistic about what is to come.

“I would say being able to listen to the stories of the High School ladies, Principal Dr. Davis, and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rhone gave me true hope for our community and future,” Brian Cass said.

A Black Financial Empowerment Event was held where Equitable colleagues spoke to the entire sophomore and senior classes at the academy on Feb. 24.

The following day, local leaders held a 1-hour meeting with the Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner to provide a recap of Impact Day and the goals for 2023.

Brian Cass led the Financial Planning 101 program. He claimed his favorite part of the three-day event was “seeing it all come together for the greater good.”
