The Harris County Commissioners Court and the Houston City Council held its joint meeting on Monday to reappoint Ric Campo as chairman of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority, per a press release

Campo, who was first appointed to the position in early 2019, earned another term by way of unanimous vote by both governmental bodies, the release said.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner praised Campo for his “outstanding” work during the previous half-decade.

According to the port, Campo was instrumental in the $1 billion expansion infrastructure program known as Project 11 coming into fruition.

“I am confident he will continue to guide the strategic development of the Houston Ship Channel in a way that continues to benefit the entire Houston region,” Turner said in the release.

Campo thanked city and county leaders for bestowing upon him the opportunity to continue as chairman.

“I want to thank Mayor Turner, [Harris County] Judge [Lina] Hidalgo, Harris County Commissioners and Houston City Council members for their vote of confidence today in our entire Port Houston Team,” he said, per the port. “Port Houston continues to be a major generator of jobs in our region. We are excited about opportunities in 2023 and beyond, continuing work on the $1 billion investment in deepening and widening the Houston Ship Channel, and our $1.1 billion in landside investments expanding and improving our facilities.”

Hidalgo, who just began her second term as county judge, was absent from the meeting due to a family emergency in her native Colombia.

According to Campo’s biography on the port’s website, he’s the chief executive officer (CEO) of Camden Property Trust, a position he has held for three decades as of this year.

A 1976 graduate of Oregon State University, Campo serves on numerous boards throughout the Greater Houston area, including the Greater Houston Partnership and the Houston First Corporation.
