A new museum in Houston that’s set to open this month looks to transport visitors to a simpler time.

Houston NBC affiliate KPRC reported that the Houston Toy Museum in the Heights will host a grand opening after months of renovation delays.

Located at 319 W. 19th St., Ste. C, the museum will feature items that defined childhoods from as far back as the 19th century, KPRC reported.

The museum is the brainchild of Matt and Sara Broussard, who spent the last two years planning its fruition.

Matt Broussard, the “chief toy officer” (CTO), said in a press release that the concept for the museum came to him when he noticed that his garage apartment didn’t have enough room for his growing collection of vintage toys, KPRC reported.

“Starting on Oct. 6, visitors will be able to come and witness just what it is we’ve been working so hard on,” the museum’s Instagram account said.

Museum director Sara Broussard hopes the soon-to-be open attraction would take people on a pleasant trip down memory lane.

“We want for people of all ages to come into the museum and immediately point to something and say, ‘I remember that!’” she said, according to KPRC.

The museum said in the release that the facility will highlight the origins of certain toys such as Legos and teddy bears.

According to the museum’s Instagram, its gift shop has been open “for a few hours a day” since Sept. 8.

“We had hoped to open the museum and gift shop together, but with the delay, we have a ton of really cool merchandise available and burning holes through our brand new retail shelves,” the post read with a laughing emoji for humorous emphasis.

KPRC reported that the grand opening is slated for Oct. 6 at 10 a.m.
