A woman received quite a shock when she discovered an unmarked grave on her property in the northwest Harris County community of Crosby, per Houston-based media outlets’ reports.

Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported that investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) are trying to determine how a full-sized casket ended up on Miriam Soza’s property in the 500 block of Barrett Road.

KTRK reported that representatives from Texas EquuSearch are aiding law enforcement.

Soza explained to sheriff’s deputies that her family purchased the 1.5-acre tract of land adjacent to the Barrett Station Evergreen Cemetery in March 2021, the station reported.

Authorities said that eight months later, a fresh mound of dirt caught the family’s attention – and earlier this summer – they found the mound decorated, prompting Soza to reach out to the family, they believe, set it up, KTRK reported.

She; however, hasn’t received a response.

Soza described the ordeal as “very crazy,” according to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU.

“At first, I thought it was just leftover dirt from one of the other graves and it did have flowers on top of it,” she said, KHOU reported. "Months later, actually came out to see that they came out and actually put stuff out, like a memorial almost on there."

Soza brought the mound to the attention of the cemetery’s management, to which they said all of their burial plots were accounted for.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted that a “full excavation has not yet occurred.”

According to KHOU, Soza hopes to get a hold of the family of the individual interred in the unmarked grave so the excavation could take place sooner.

"Just want anyone with information to come forward with this,” she told the station. “Let us know. Solve this mystery.”

The sheriff’s office can be reached at (713) 274-9100, per KHOU.
