Anna Katherine Greis Kuhner

December 28, 1922-August 23, 2022

Auf Wiedersehen! (Until we meet again!)

A life well-lived; love, passion, strength, vigor, determination, desire and The American Dream. That was Anna.

Anna, a German immigrant, arrived in the United States in 1924. She grew up an only child milking cows, butchering chickens, weighing eggs, shoveling the deep snow in upstate New York, and learning English in a German-speaking home. It was a hard life, but it taught her values that lasted a lifetime.

John Kuhner, the love of her life, spotted her on the farm, and he knew then he would marry Anna. They married when she was 19, and their love was more than strong, it was passion beyond belief. They celebrated over 65 years of marriage together! Anna was “number one” for John, always.

Anna gave John everything she had to give: encouragement, children, love, and home cooking! He would credit all of his success in the beer industry to his beloved Anna. Their combined work ethic was over the top. Anna was the ultimate homemaker. The first thing that comes to mind when remembering Anna is the aroma of strudels in the oven, honey buns, Lebkuchen, and don’t forget the rouladen, sauerbraten, and wursts! Everything was made from scratch. She always had something on the stove and cakes or pies in the oven. When she baked, she did not make one pie, she would make seven! She had a large brass bell outside the front door and would CLANG that bell for John and the kids to come running in for meals. She kept everyone strong, happy, and healthy. Let’s not forget her beauty. She was a naturally gorgeous blue-eyed blonde, who dressed impeccably everyday. Anna loved high heels, pretty dresses, and of course, was quite the shopper. As an empty nester, she modeled in San Antonio into her 60’s, and she was certainly a crowd pleaser!

Anna will be missed by many. She truly was a “one of a kind, first-class” woman. She would dance the night away and wake up early to jump in the pool and swim. She made a great life for herself and everyone close to her, starting in Cologne, Germany to NYC, Boston, Milwaukee, San Antonio, and Sugar Land. Her favorite song, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” says it all. We are hoping Anna has found John once again, and they are dancing together while their son Billy, sips an ice cold beer, toasting them and their everlasting love of life. “Prost!”
