Jan Haydel Layton
JULY 5, 1959 – AUGUST 26, 2022
Jan Haydel Layton was born July 5, 1959 in Houma, Louisiana and joined her loved ones in Heaven on August 26, 2022 at the age of 63.
Jan had many roles throughout her life. She was a daughter, sister, friend, mother and grandmother. She never met a stranger and everyone was invited to the crawfish boil. No invitations were needed, but you were expected to sit a spell and share a bit of yourself in return. Her kitchen and living room were open to all who needed a safe space. During Jan’s time here on Earth she shared many life lessons with her own children who are now able to share them with their own family, friends, and neighbors. In this way, a little piece of Jan and her traditions will live on, making the world a little more kind, a little more humble, and a little more forgiving.
We are grateful for the time we had with her and for the time she took to teach each of us those lessons.
Jan is preceded in death by her daughter Julie Layton Rountree, her husband Andrew Criss Layton, her father Paul Victorian Haydel Jr, her brother Michael Haydel and her aunt Carol Lee Tucker. She is survived by her daughters Cortney Layton [Jody] Morris, Kristen Layton [Brett] Chinski, son-in-law Robert Thomas Rountree II, grandchildren Easton, Sutton and Henley Morris, mother Laura Nancy Tucker Haydel, sister Laura Kay [Kent] Hebert and Lisa [Larry] Belton, niece Tracee [Ernie] Bennett and nephews Shawn Belton and Cameron Hebert, great niece Ellie Bennett and great nephews Cooper Bennett and Zach Belton, aunt Martha Haydel Blank, sister-in-law Yvonda Layton as well as many loving cousins.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
