He was predeceased by : his parents, Abelardo Cortez and Carlota Cortez; and his brother George Cortez. He is survived by : his children, Jenni Parsons (Wes), Danny Cortez (Amy) and Becka Dixon (Tim); and his siblings, Grace Shamel, Abel Cortez, Sandra Whitman, Hector Cortez, Bea Langhammer and Yvette Dasbach.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 1st 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home (9926 Jones Rd, Houston, TX 77065). A rosary was held on Thursday, September 1st 2022 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A mass of christian burial will be held on Friday, September 2nd 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church (11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, TX 77065).
