A Houston-area credit union leader with a lengthy military career was recently promoted a two-star major general in the U.S. Army, according to a report from Houston NBC affiliate KPRC.
Texas Dow Employees Credit Union (TDECU) President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Isaac Johnson was elevated from brigadier general in the Army Reserve, with a change of command ceremony slated on Friday in Fort Bragg in North Carolina, KPRC reported.
The honor comes more than a year after the TDECU named Johnson its top leader.
According to Johnson, KPRC reported, he considers the latest accomplishment in his life an honor and a privilege.
“It wasn’t by accident, you know, I have had a lot of mentors,” he said, according to the station. “I’m standing on the shoulders of many that come before me. And they’ve invested in me as a person to have the tough jobs, have the tough assignments and go on multiple deployments worldwide and to be prepared to take on additional responsibility.”
KPRC reported that the National Buffalo Soldier Museum hosted a celebration for Johnson on Saturday that was attended by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston) and other dignitaries.
Turner issued a proclamation declaring “Major General Isaac Johnson Jr. Day” and Jackson Lee presented Johnson with an American flag that hoisted above the U.S. Capitol, the station reported.
According to Johnson’s LinkedIn profile, he holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi State University (MSU), a master’s degree in business administration from Jackson State University (JSU), and juris doctorate from Texas Southern University (TSU).
He has worked for TDECU since 2014, and before that, Wells Fargo and Trustmark Bank.
KPRC reported that Johnson will assume control of the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command effective Friday and will continue to lead TDECU.
