Attorneys on return of murder suspect to Texas: 'We ask for respect for the privacy of Kaitlin’s family'

The woman who was the subject of a manhunt after she allegedly fled the U.S. in an attempt to evade arrest in the death of a young cycling star returned to the country on Saturday, Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported. 

Thirty-four-year-old Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, of Austin, is accused of killing Anna Moriah "Mo" Wilson while the latter was visiting Texas to compete in a race. 

Citing KXAN and Austin ABC affiliate KVUE, Austin Journal reported the U.S. Marshal Service  said Armstrong was captured in Costa Rica on Thursday.

KXAN reported that the suspect was booked at the Harris County Jail after her arrival at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston.

As of press time, Armstrong was awaiting transfer to Austin, where on May 11 the 25-year-old Wilson was purportedly found dead inside a residence on the east side of the state capital.

The law firm of Cofer & Connelly is representing the suspect, KXAN reported.

“Neither Kaitlin nor her attorneys will be making any statements to the media at this time,” Cofer & Connelly said, according to the station. “We ask for respect for the privacy of Kaitlin’s family.”

Authorities said that Armstrong sported an altered appearance at the time of her arrest in the vicinity of Santa Teresa Beach in Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

Aside from a homicide charge, Austin Journal reported, Armstrong is accused of using a fake American passport while departing Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in the New York City area for Costa Rica on May 18.

The U.S. Marshal Service’s Costa Rican counterparts assisted in nabbing the suspect, to which Susan Pamerleau, U.S. marshal for the Western District of Texas, told KVUE capped “a 43-day run.”

Wilson’s surviving family reportedly expressed relief in response to the arrest.
