The family of a clergyman who lost his life in an apparent road rage incident on Friday, June 24, has called for justice, according to a report from Houston ABC affiliate KTRK.
Authorities said that 58-year-old Reverend Dr. Ronald Mouton, Sr. was fatally shot on the 6400 block of the Gulf Freeway, KTRK reported.
Mouton preached at the East Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, per Houston NBC affiliate KPRC.
Houston Police Department (HPD) Lt. Josh Horn told KTRK that the pastor and his unidentified alleged killer engaged in a short verbal confrontation.
"At that point, the suspect fired at least one shot toward his vehicle," Horn said, the station reported.
Mouton purportedly crashed into a telephone pole after he was shot, authorities said.
The clergyman’s passing devastated his family, his friends and the congregation he had served for more than 30 years, KTRK reported.
"All we want is justice in this situation," Roland Mouton, his twin brother who’s also a pastor, said, per the station. "If you have a heart and a conscience, then I'm asking you. You don't know the magnitude of what you took from us senselessly."
According to KPRC, Crime Stoppers of Houston and U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston) have partnered to offer a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
The reward was initially $5,000 but has since increased to $15,000.
A 1981 honors graduate of Ross Shaw Sterling High School (RSSHS), Mouton attended Baylor University and Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA), KPRC reported.
He is survived by his spouse of nearly 40 years, Suzanne Pollard-Mouton; the couple’s four children; and a host of grandchildren, the station reported.
HPD urges anyone with information to come forward.
