The Texas Republican Party has crafted and approved its party platform of which one of the resolutions is the rejection of the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to a press release.
The release said that more than 5,000 delegates at the just-concluded 2022 State GOP Convention passed the 40-page platform. The biennial convention was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston last Thursday to Saturday.
The Texas Republicans assert in the resolution that the most recent race for the White House "violated Article 1 and 2 of the U.S. Constitution," claiming some secretaries of state defied their respective state legislatures in holding the elections "multiple ways," per the release.
"We believe that substantial election fraud in key metropolitan areas significantly affected the results in five key states in favor of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.," the resolution reads. "We reject the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and we hold that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not legitimately elected by the people of the United States."
Texas GOP Chairman Matt Rinaldi echoed the sentiments laid out in the resolution.
“Texas Republicans rightly have no faith in the 2020 election results and we don’t care how many times the elites tell us we have to," Rinaldi, a former state lawmaker, said in the release. "The Texas Republican Party is raising record funds for election integrity, and we’ve made election integrity a top priority to ensure Texas never goes the way of Pennsylvania, Georgia or Arizona. We refuse to let Democrats rig the elections in 2022 or 2024.”
Texas's 38 electoral votes went to former President Donald J. Trump in the 2020 race.
Austin ABC affiliate KVUE reported that the Texas GOP also approved a resolution expressing opposition toward red flag laws and waiting periods for firearm purchases.
The resolution also chastised the U.S. Senate's bipartisan framework agreement on guns reached on Sunday, June 12, as well as rebuked the lawmakers involved in the deal, including U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), per KVUE.
KVUE reported that the party also established its stances on defunding police departments, property tax relief, sexual and gender identity education in schools and school security.
Houston NBC affiliate KPRC reported that the 2022 event was the first time delegates met in person in nearly half a decade.
COVID-19 relegated the 2020 convention to computer, tablet and phone screens after organizers fought to have it as an in-person event to no avail, per the station.
