The Lone Star State's newest political parties are teaming up to host a convention in September to help generate interest while working to give voters another option as opposed to the traditional two-party political system.
Bill King, chair for the SAM Party of Texas, and Rick Kennedy, state chair for the Forward Party of Texas, announced the joint venture to be held on Sept. 24 in the Norris Conference Center at Houston City Centre. Both groups plan to fix problems the nation is facing through clearly defined principles, civil political dialogue and a rededication to civic engagement, a recent release by the Austin Journal said.
"If you are tired of not having an alternative to the geological extremes of the two incumbent parties, please plan to come to the SAM/Forward convention on September 24 and help us build a better, more hopeful solution," the release said.
The convention schedule includes both morning and afternoon sessions followed by a lunch and cocktail hour, the release said. Speakers include former presidential candidate Andrew Yang and former members of congress David Jolly and Chris Bell.
The SAM Party of Texas is a diverse coalition of Texans looking to elect candidates who will solve the problems facing democracy that the two major political parties are causing, the party's website said. The party's mission is to fix "a system that has been corrupted by the mainstream parties and the people who prop them up." The group encourages anyone to join, regardless on their stance on particular issues.
Yang founded the Forward Party in October of 2021. It's website stated that the party provides a new "political home" for Americans looking for a more modern, accountable and effective government.
"We advocate for a modern and effective government," the party's website said. "We support candidates who serve the people they represent. We unite America with grace and tolerance, integrity and innovation. We will break through the two-party system and deliver a future we all can be proud of."
