CITGO has awarded community resiliency grants in its operating areas, including the Houston area, according to a company issued release.
Michael Rosen, CITGO's general manager of government and public affairs, said in the release that the honorees were recognized for persevering during the hurricane season, which runs from Wednesday (June 1) to Nov. 30.
"The communities we call home demonstrate tremendous resilience, especially during storm season — and they do so by coming together," Rosen said. "We're proud to regularly join in this effort, both through grants to our nonprofit partners and through TeamCITGO volunteer activities."
Rosen added that CITGO has helped communities recover following natural disasters as well as prepare for them beforehand.
"Together, we've lent a helping hand both immediately following a natural disaster and in the long-term by helping communities rebuild and better prepare for future storms," he said in the release. "These grants in particular support projects to help communities increase their resiliency and be better prepared."
The release said that CITGO awarded a $25,000 grant to Operation Impact, which assists Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston's Meals on Wheels program in the distribution of meals to the community's senior population.
Last month, Houston Daily reported, CITGO was represented by volunteers at a hurricane food drive hosted by both Interfaith Ministries and Meals on Wheels.
CITGO said in the release that it will donate a combined $50,000 to United Way organizations in Corpus Christi and Lake Charles, Louisiana.
It'll also gift $25,000 to Will County Habitat for Humanity in Joliet, Illinois to help address housing needs in the town of Lockport in addition to awarding $50,000 to the Gulf of Mexico Alliance for its green design project, per the release.
