Birmingham, Alabama-based post-acute health care services provider Encompass Health Corporation has plans to build a 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Houston, according to a press release

The facility will be built at 3000 Yellowstone Blvd. near the Texas Medical Center (TMC) and will serve patients recovering from neurological disorders and complex orthopedic conditions, the release said.

Frank Brown, president of Encompass Health's Southwest region, expressed excitement over the project, which is part of the company's Texas portfolio.

"Through the new inpatient rehabilitation hospital, we will provide our patients with coordinated and connected care that meets them where they are in their health care journeys and makes a positive difference in their lives," Brown said in the release.

According to the company, the hospital will provide 24-hour nursing care in addition to physical, occupational and speech therapies.

It'll consist of private patient rooms, a therapy gym, an activities of daily living suite, cafeteria, dining room, pharmacy and therapy courtyard.

The release said that the Houston hospital is part of an expansion plan in the Lone Star State that also includes a proposed facility in Amarillo and another under construction in the North Texas city of Prosper, which is approximately 40 miles north of Dallas.

The company currently owns 26 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, 51 home health locations and 15 hospice locations in Texas, per the release.
