A Republican U.S. congressman from the Houston area has waded into the Title 42 situation, asserting that U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alex Mayorkas should face impeachment if he doesn't enforce it.

"The Secretary of Homeland Security needs to be impeached if he won’t take the necessary steps to secure our homeland at our border," U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Houston) said on Twitter. "Removing Title 42 will break our border and break our border agents."

Crenshaw's tweet is part of a chorus of Republican voices that have urged the Biden administration to refrain from ending Title 42, a public health authority implemented by the Trump administration which bars migrants at the border from entering the country for asylum in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Crenshaw represents Texas's 2nd congressional district, which encompasses parts of northern and western Houston.

According to an article from the Associated Press (AP), Houston CBS affiliate KHOU reported, a federal judge in Louisiana issued a ruling that temporarily halts the end of Title 42.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) earlier this month announced that the policy would be scrapped on May 23, per the report.

The AP reported that several GOP majority states, including Texas, have pursued legal action against the federal government to prevent the expiration of Title 42, according to KHOU.

"For the reasons stated on the record, the Court announced its intent to grant the motion," U.S. District Court Judge Robert R. Summerhays of the Western District of Louisiana wrote in his order.

Gov. Greg Abbott has been on the forefront of the migrant situation at Texas' border with Mexico as he has decried the Biden administration for its plans to eliminate Title 42.

Earlier this month, the Houston Daily reported, the governor made good on his promise to send buses of migrants to Washington, D.C.

"Biden refuses to come see the mess he’s made at the border," Abbott tweeted at the time. "So Texas is bringing the border to him."
