Base 3 Farms is based in Houston, growing and selling Moringa. Moringa is often described as a "superfood" and can be very useful for a person's diet.

"Moringa is a tropical tree, native to India, that produces one of the most nutrient-dense greens on the planet," Daniel Garcia-Prats, Base 3 Farms CEO and co-founder, told the Houston Daily. "Commonly referred to as the 'miracle tree,' this superfood has been used for centuries as a natural medicinal remedy and has been slowly working its way across the tropics, now finding its way into the U.S."

Connor Davis, director of Business Development and co-founder of Base 3 Farms, also discussed what makes the company unique.

"Well, we are the only moringa brand that grows it here in the U.S," Davis told the Houston Daily. "Not only is this a good thing for American farming, but it also means that our moringa is fresher than the competition. Instead of sourcing moringa overseas from third-parties, we can personally attest to the quality and nutritional value of our product."

Garcia-Prats went on to talk about the importance of Moringa in diets.

"Moringa leaves are packed with essential vitamins, nutrients, protein, antioxidants and amino acids," Garcia-Prats told the Houston Daily. "Moringa has been shown to reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol, lower blood-sugar and assist with high blood pressure and even diabetes. It's a great addition to any routine and can help fill in the gaps in our diet so that we get what we need from our food."

Garcia-Prats also discussed moringa's versatility.

"Moringa is significantly more than a supplement, it's a nutritional ingredient that can be easily incorporated to fit into anyone's routine," Garcia-Prats told the Houston Daily. "It's fairly concentrated, with a recommended daily serving between a teaspoon to a tablespoon, meaning it shouldn't modify the taste of whatever you add it to. This makes it easy to use and versatile enough to be used in smoothies, as a tea, sprinkled on foods or even baked."

Garcia-Prats went on to address the comparisons between moringa and matcha.

"People commonly confuse matcha for moringa since both are bright green powders and are exploding in popularity," Garcia-Prats told the Houston Daily. "However, moringa provides a natural energy boost without the caffeine. We do see it used sometimes as a caffeine-free alternative for matcha."

Davis discussed collaborations that the brand had planned.

"This is a part of our business that I am very fortunate to help lead," Davis told the Houston Daily. "We have collaborations underway with a number of fellow Houston brands including Kickin’ Kombucha, Roots in Harmony teas, Uncommon Bee Farm and Bare Bakery. There is such a vibrant and fast-growing ecosystem of Houston makers and we have dove in headfirst. It is a very rewarding part of our mission to be able to spotlight other small businesses while also showcasing the versatility of moringa."

Overall, the company is very excited to be doing business in the Houston area.

"As the first commercial grower in the United States, we're excited for Houston to be the epicenter of this trend," Davis told the Houston Daily. "All four of us partners behind Base 3 Farms were born here and we are proud Houstonians. As we continue to grow, we will always represent Houston and hope one day we have a success story that might help to inspire other local producers and makers."
