Galveston Mayor Dr. Craig Brown is recovering from a bout with COVID-19.
In the days since his positive test, Brown’s home state of Texas has reported over 200,000 new COVID-19 cases. On Jan. 3, Texas reported 164,000 new cases from the holiday surge.
“My symptoms have been kind of like having a cold,” Mayor Brown said. “They’re pretty mild.”
According to The Galveston County Daily News, the 75-year-old Brown confirmed his diagnosis on New Year’s Eve and has been quarantining in his home. According to the mayor, it’s the first time he has tested for COVID-19. His self-isolation plans ended on Jan. 4.
Brown also couldn’t pinpoint the source of how he contracted the virus. Family members he had spent the holidays with all tested negative.
