Popular rapper Megan Thee Stallion fulfilled a promise she made to herself by earning her bachelor’s degree in health administration from Texas Southern University.
The Grammy-award winner, born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, received her degree during a recent commencement ceremony where she marched across the stage along with her fellow graduates.
"WE DID IT HOTTIES," she tweeted.
Megan began her collegiate studies at Prairie View A&M, located 50 miles northwest of Houston. She originally planned to become a nurse but decided that wasn’t for her. She switched majors, but as her music career began to take off she left Prairie View to return home to Houston. After continuing her education at community colleges, she decided to enroll at TSU and finish her undergraduate degree.
“I definitely feel like it taught me focus,” she told Rolling Stone magazine. “I feel like it taught me discipline and I met some of my best friends at college. The girls that I met when I was a freshman, I’m still best friends with them to this day. They’re like my sisters.”
Megan, according to Rolling Stone, hopes to use her degree to open assisted-living facilities in her hometown. She has also provided scholarships to other young women to receive a higher education, including two $10,000 scholarships for women of color to attend the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment at Long Island University.
She was honored for those efforts following the commencement ceremony by U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston), who presented Megan with the 18th Congressional District Humanitarian Award.
