Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo has officially filed for reelection. Her mission statement? Well, according to Hidalgo, she's prepared to fight for the progress she has made in the past three years.

Judge Hidalgo tweeted, "I just filed for re-election, and I’m ready to work relentlessly to protect all of the progress we’ve made over the last three years. If you care about the future of Harris County and Texas, too much is at stake to sit this one out."

Hidalgo is the first Latina and first female to be elected chief executive of Texas's largest county, winning the election against then-incumbent Ed Emmett in 2018.

The county judge told supporters gathered at the Harris County Democratic Party headquarters on Dec. 1 that her campaign three years ago was challenging and she took nothing for granted after her monumental victory.

Hidalgo faces a challenge from Humble Independent School District president Martina Lemond Dixon, who announced her run in September, according to Houston Daily.

"Whether it is crime, flood recovery, roads or taxes, we can get it done and put our county back on track if we put politics aside and work together," Dixon's electoral goal reads.
