Harris County, Texas' largest and one of the most populated counties in the country, seeks to lower its carbon footprint and advance its sustainability goals through an arrangement with Energy Edge Consulting, LLC, according to a press release.

Energy Edge will support Harris County in sourcing renewable energy from off-site resources and in developing a thorough energy management plan as part of its contract with the county.

“It is a very exciting opportunity to assist Harris County with the development and implementation of its renewable energy strategy," Matt Hobson, principal, Energy Edge stated in the press release.

Energy Edge will also begin integrating renewable energy into the county's retail power contract in January 2023.

"We believe many other consumers will follow Harris County’s lead with respect to purchasing renewable energy,” Hobson added.

Harris County aims to maintain a strong commitment to renewable energy development in recognition of the challenges involving climate change and the economic possibilities provided by more competitive renewable energy and sophisticated energy technology.

The county currently manages hundreds of facilities spread over approximately 1,800 square miles and is working to build an energy plan that would lower total energy usage while increasing its reliance on renewable energy.

Energy Edge will collaborate with the county and its stakeholders to design a comprehensive energy plan that takes both on and off-site renewable energy projects into account, as well as other sustainability efforts.

Additionally, the company will utilize its knowledge from supporting large end-use consumers in analyzing utility-scale power purchase agreements, as well as its in-depth understanding of retail power contracts, to assist Harris County in meeting its renewable energy goals.
