Longtime Houston broadcast journalist Dominique Sachse, who has been a familiar face at KPRC Channel 2 for more than 20 years, has been accorded her own day by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on the occasion of her retirement.

A private farewell party was held for Sachse at Houston's chic Steak 48 on Oct. 28.

"Despite some differences with the media, Mayor @SylvesterTurner was thrilled to drop by and give best wishes to a fellow @UHouston Cougar and proclaim Thursday, Oct. 28 Dominique Sachse Day," Mary Denton said in a post to her Twitter account on Oct. 31.

Sachse expressed her own thoughts on retirement to Culturemap.

“Saying goodbye to a 28-year career in the TV news business is bittersweet,” Sachse told CultureMap. “I have been blessed to work with such an esteemed group of colleagues and so fortunate to have been welcomed into the viewer’s home for as long as I have. But sometimes it’s necessary for one chapter to end and another to begin. I am ready and eager for this next chapter in the form of more content creation and the soon-to-be release of my first book, "Life Makeover - Embrace The Bold, Beautiful and Blessed You." I sincerely can’t thank the Houston community enough for their support.”

Turner also praised Sachse at the event.

"You know, they didn't ask me to speak, they asked me to sing. But I'm not going to do that to you," Turner said. "You don't just belong to KPRC, you're a Houston treasure. And you know to step away at the height of your game."

Aside from Turner and Sasche's mother, the shortlist of prominent guests included former ABC13 anchor Dave Ward. While Sachse said goodbye to terrestrial television, she's not leaving screens anytime soon as she plans to focus more on her social media empire. Sachse's media career began on the radio, which included a stint as a Mix 96.5 DJ. But it was her 1993 hiring at KPRC that would make her an enduring presence on Bayou City television.

Sachse's last day on television news was Oct. 29, the day after the celebration in her honor at Steak 48, according to the Houston Chronicle.
