A partnership with Amazon has allowed the Houston Food Bank to deliver nearly 500,000 meals to families, children and senior citizens in the Houston area.
The partnership began after the Amazon leadership team surveyed the Houston Food Bank’s main warehouse and saw a way to utilize its own warehouse and volunteer employees to help unload, sort, repack and ship products. In six months, the partnership has produced more than 600,000 pounds of food or more than 450,000 meals.
“One of the biggest lessons learned during the pandemic, especially for essential organizations/workers and those on the frontlines, is the importance of partnerships and working together for the greater good,” said Brian Greene, president and CEO of Houston Food Bank. “For organizations like Houston Food Bank, who experienced never-before-seen demand for assistance coupled with increased restrictions, a drop in volunteer workforce and strict health and safety protocols, these partnerships were crucial to getting the monumental task done. Amazon has made – and continues to make – a huge impact.”
Since the onset of the pandemic, Amazon has supported food banks and community organizations with free contactless delivery of groceries and pre-packaged meals.
