The spouse of late Houston social media influencer Alexis Sharkey and purported suspect in her death, Thomas Sharkey, was found dead in his Florida home on Oct. 7 following a warrant issued for his arrest.

Thomas Sharkey left the state of Texas about two weeks after Alexis' murder and was found dead via self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on the night of Oct. 5 when U.S. Marshals became aware of his location, according to KHOU 11

"The U.S. Marshals adopted a warrant for Thomas Sharkey, who was wanted out of Harris County, Texas, for murder. The U.S. Marshals Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force received a lead from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Task Force in Houston that Sharkey was in the Fort Myers, Florida, area. U.S. Marshals located Sharkey at a residence in Fort Myers and later found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot inside of the residence," said U.S. Marshals in a statement, according to Click2Houston

Alexis Sharkey, 26, was found deceased by a Houston Public Works employee in the 1000 block of her Red Haw Street home in November of 2020 after being previously reported as missing at the time, according to Click2Houston.

According to Houston police, Thomas was not truthful through the missing person investigation and attempted to throw them off by suggesting other possible suspects. In addition to Sharkey's evasive behavior, police were already aware of a history of domestic violence between Alexis and Thomas Sharkey, and the two were already planning to separate, according to KHOU 11.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences concluded that the cause of death of the social media star to be strangulation and the manner of death to be a homicide, a conclusion that was difficult to obtain following Sharkey's disappearance and lack of DNA sample provided on his part, according to Click2Houston.

After obtaining the arrest warrant on Sept. 29, the U.S. Marshals became aware of Sharkey's presence and when confronted, found that he had shot himself. A relative at the scene of the crime was able to identify the body as Sharkey's, according to Click2Houston.
