POST Houston will open its doors soon, providing residents another venue where they can eat, shop and catch a show in Downtown Houston.
The building, formerly the Barbara Jordan Post Office, will now be a multipurpose complex offering visitors a food hall, concert venue, rooftop garden and co-working space, Chron reports.
“It’s basically like the biggest recycling project you’ve ever seen,” international architecture firm OMA partner Jason Long told Chron.
OMA designed the Houston project, which takes inspiration from the post office’s past.
“We tried to keep everything as raw as we could so that these elements that are new, really stand out against them—but then we could take as much advantage as we could of the patina of the building,” Long added.
Old security vaults have been repurposed as art installations and the famous “spy tunnels” can still be seen throughout the building, Chron reports.
“The building itself is like Houston in a way. It has a very muted exterior, but then you discover great things inside. That’s how I feel about the city itself,” Lovett Commercial Director of Development and POST Houston Project Manager Kirby Liu told Chron.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the grand opening date for POST Houston is Nov. 13.
The venue’s 5.5-acre rooftop garden will feature a revolving music stage and a warehouse-style concert venue, the Houston Chronicle reports.
POST Houston's major tenants include the 713 Music Hall, the Post Market food hall and Golfstrømmen Seafood Market, the article states.
