Houston's Top 30 most influential women were recognized at a gala Oct. 1.

"The 30 exceptional women who are being honored during @dmars_com 'Top 30 Influential Women of Houston' gala and the ones honored in previous years are inspiring and telling our young women in this city that they too can break glass ceilings in any industry they work in," Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted.

Among the women recognized were Houston City Councilwoman Tiffany D. Thomas, attorney Amber Mostyn and University of Houston-Clear Lake President Dr. Ira K. Blake.

"What an amazing portrait of @HoustonTX! The Top 30 Influential Women of the city with the Mayor @SylvesterTurner who declares : 'I can not imagine any system operating effectively and impactfully without women,'" tweeted Valerie Baraban, France's consul general in Houston.

The award recognized "a diverse group of successful women in Houston who share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence and empowering the community," according to the organization's website.

"The Top 30 Women come from different backgrounds, share different beliefs and have overcome different obstacles, but their common  denominator is their undeniable quest for success and passion to mentor the next generation of leaders," it said.
