The City of Baytown gathered last week to celebrate the construction of a new full-service, nationally branded Hyatt hotel that will help bring economic growth to the area, according to Sen. Carol Alvarado (D-Houston).
A formal groundbreaking was held by the city to commence the beginning of construction of the Hyatt Regency Baytown-Houston Hotel and Convention Center on Wednesday, Sept. 22, according to the City of Baytown.
"Today we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Hyatt Regency Baytown-Houston Hotel and Convention Center. We look forward to watching this project progress and are thrilled to welcome Hyatt Regency to the City of Baytown," the City of Baytown wrote in a Facebook post.
According to BOKA Powell's site, BOKA Powell and design-builder DPR Construction were engaged by developer Garfield Public Private to build and complete the new 208-key, 131,000-square-foot Hyatt Regency hotel and conference center on Bayland Island.
"#TeamAlvarado attended the @hyattregency Baytown-Houston Groundbreaking. This hotel will increase tourism and spur economic growth in the @CityofBaytown. I look forward to seeing the finished product," Alvarado wrote in a tweet.
In addition to a hotel and conference center, the hotel will also feature a restaurant, an approximate 43,000 square feet of ballroom, lobby bar, private dining area, fitness center, pool and amenity deck. As a waterfront development, the hotel will sit along the Houston ship channel, and include a marina and ship's store, BOKA Powell's site said.
A brief from DPR Construction said the hotel will also include a convenience store and coffee shop.
The hotel is planned to be seven stories, with six of those stories being the guest rooms. The property also has plans to crease lush landscaping and an outdoor/courtyard space, DPR Construction's site said.
