Houston is mourning the loss of a teenager killed in a shooting in Montgomery County.
"HPD is sad to confirm the victim, 14, is the son of an HPD officer. The family asks for prayers and that their privacy be respected in their time of grief. Anyone with tips is asked to call the @MCTXSheriff office at 936-760-5800 or Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 800-392-STOP," the Houston Police Department said in a Twitter post.
U.S. Rep Kevin Brady sends his sincere thoughts to the family of the young teen, expressing his condolences on Twitter.
"Devastating news out of TX-08. My prayers are with the victim's family and all of HPD," Brady said in a Twitter post.
New Caney Independent School District officials say that the boy, who attended Porter High School, was killed outside of his residence in the in the Kings Mill community of Kingwood, according to ABC13.
New Caney ISD issued the following statement, according to Click2Houston:
“New Caney ISD has learned that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 17-year-old Porter High School student in connection with the death of a 14-year-old Porter High School student. We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our students. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. Additional counselors remain available at school for students and staff as needed."
The news comes just as Houston PD lost one of its own in the line of duty.
Houston Police Department Senior Officer William "Bill" Jeffrey was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 20, according to KHOU News. He and Sgt. Michael Vance were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at the time of his death, according to KHOU News.
A man has been charged with the death of the 14-year-old.
Bryan Smith Jr. has been charged with capital murder in connection with the 14-year-old’s shooting death, according to Click2Houston.
The case is under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, according to Click2Houston, as investigators are combing through evidence, conducting interviews and executing additional search warrants.
