Carolyn Ann King Douglas
1944-2021
Carolyn Ann King Douglas was called home to the Lord on September 2, 2021 after a battle with cancer.
Carolyn was born on September 12, 1944 in Livingston, Texas to Ruthie Mae and Sammie D. King, Sr. The family moved to Houston after her father was discharged from the US Army. Carolyn was educated in the Houston Independent School District. While a student at Kashmere Sr. High School she met her future husband, Ellis W. Douglas.
Upon graduation from high school, she attended Prairie View A&M University where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. She then earned her Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis on Counseling from Texas Southern University.
Carolyn and Ellis were married December 23, 1967. To this union, their only child, Denika Yvette was born.
During her 35-year career with the Houston Independent School District, Carolyn worked primarily with special education students. She was especially passionate about working with students with emotional disabilities.
After retiring as Special Education Director for the South Central District, she enjoyed volunteering at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, entertaining friends and loved ones, book club, gardening, and traveling.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her loving memories; her husband of 53 years Ellis W. Douglas; her daughter Denika Douglas Washington (Tony); grandchildren Miles Ellis and Leah Jewel; her siblings Sammie D. King, Jr., Eileen Johnson (Bobby), Frances Cook, James Wesley King, and John Paul King, and Aunt Cleopatra King Harris. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

A private funeral will be held on September 13, 2021 at Mabrie Memorial Mortuary, Houston, Texas.
