Edward Leon Fennell Jr.
DECEMBER 12, 1944 – AUGUST 18, 2021
Edward Leon "Bo" Fennell of The Woodlands, Texas was born December 12, 1944, and lost his short but well fought battle with cancer on August 18, 2021.
Bo was born in Kissimmee, Florida to Edward Leon Fennell and Ethel Johnson Fennell. He graduated from Osceola High School and then attended Florida State University earning a B.S. in Geology and M.S. in Geophysics.
Having worked for Humble Oil & Refining for two summers while in college, Bo went to work full time upon receiving his graduate degree and never once looked back. His work in oil exploration took him from Houston to Midland to New Orleans and then back again. Later he was blessed to travel the world from Venezuela to Russia to China and North Africa, always welcoming the adventure and enjoying all that each destination had to offer.
After 30 plus years, he retired from ExxonMobil having numerous lifelong friends and countless treasured memories from throughout his career. Upon retiring, Bo decided that after many years of working and attending his children's swim meets, it was time for him to enter the pool. Swimming led to biking, which led to running and ultimately led to triathlons. Bo competed in numerous triathlons with the crowning jewel being finishing the 140.2-mile Ironman Texas in 2013, with his daughter. Along the way, Bo enjoyed meeting and working with his friends at the ExxonMobil Bluebonnet Club luncheons and friendly lunches with the guys. Bo always enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family, as well as his walks with his four-legged, furry friends.
Dearest to Bo's heart was spending time with family especially at his cabin in the East Texas woods. He loved walks and rides through the property looking at deer, the blooming dogwoods, and the return of the painted buntings each year. Holidays held the fondest memories for him when family would gather and enjoy all the fun to be had in the outdoors not to mention the spirited game play in the evenings.
Bo is survived by his loving wife Janet, son Joseph (Moss), daughter Stacy, daughter in law Trisha, his very special grandchildren Maddison and Wyatt, and his sister Nan Lee Logan. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, and amazing grandpa. He was preceded in death by his brother Tom McAfee and sisters Madge Pinkerton and Dorothy Jean Taylor.
A memorial service will be held at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home (18000 Interstate 45 S; The Woodlands, TX 77384 ) on September 12, 2021 from 1PM-3PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Bo's memory to the United Way of Greater Houston or Assistance League of Montgomery County.
